Obama was briefed on the threat at the National Counterterrorism Centre outside Washington by intelligence officials.
The US decided to step up fight against terrorism after two terrorists shot and killed 14 people in San Bernardino, California.
Obama had vowed full support of the Federal Government into the investigation of the shooting.
He said that it highlighted the difficulty of detecting and preventing attacks by ‘’so-called lone wolf terrorists’’.
He is billed to meet the families of the victims in California on Friday on his way to holiday in Hawaii.
Obama said that the US would continue to fight Islamic State militants overseas, try to prevent terrorists from entering the country and step up efforts to prevent attacks at home. (dpa/NAN)
